Fans who donate a minimum of three non-perishable food items before the games on Friday and Saturday will receive a free ticket voucher for a future Reds game, with a limit of one voucher per person.
Volunteers will be collecting food donations near the ballpark’s main entrance on Crosley Terrace, as well as along Joe Nuxhall Way near the Reds Hall of Fame & Museum. Donations will be collected from 5:00-7:30 p.m. on Friday and 2:00-4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
All donated food will be distributed through St. Vincent de Paul’s Becky & Ted Catino Choice Food Pantry in the West End and St. Vincent de Paul’s network of 13 neighborhood-based food pantries throughout Greater Cincinnati.
“More neighbors are turning to St. Vincent de Paul for food assistance than ever before in our 155-year history. The support we receive from drives like this is crucial to keeping shelves at our food pantries stocked for our neighbors in need,” says Brad McMonigle, CEO of St. Vincent de Paul - Cincinnati.
Food items St. Vincent de Paul needs most right now include breakfast cereal, oatmeal, canned meat (chicken, ham, salmon, etc.), canned fruits, and spices (salt, pepper, garlic, etc.).
“More than 270,000 families across Cincinnati experience food insecurity each year. To put that in perspective: one representative from each family would fill the seats in Great American Ball Park six times,” McMonigle says. “The need is great, so we are asking for the response from the Cincinnati community to be greater.”
Last summer, fans donated over 8,900 lbs. of food to the Strike Out Hunger food drive, enough to provide nearly 7,500 meals to neighbors in need.
“Last year’s fans were incredibly generous and more than doubled their donations from the year before! We are challenging Cincinnati to come out to the ballpark on July 12 and 13 to beat last year’s totals so that we can feed as many neighbors as possible. After all, when we all pitch in, we can make a huge difference.”
