The Harpsichord: A “Folk” Instrument?

Music in Kenwood: The Harpsichord: A “Folk” Instrument? Jackie Edwards-Henry, harpsichord Maren Hrivnak, soprano Lindsey Tootle, violin Doug McConnell, composer Sunday, October 19, 3 PM Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 7701 Kenwood Road The harpsichord is a classical instrument. But what else can this instrument do? How about folk music? The next program in our Music in Kenwood series is determined to show the instrument’s versatility! Dr. Jackie-Edwards Henry, Professor Emeritus of Piano at Mississippi State University will bring her own harpsichord, modeled after a French double-manual harpsichord built by Pascal Taskin in Paris in 1769. You will hear some classical music for the instrument, but you will also be given a generous helping of music from our folk music traditions! Jackie will be assisted by Maren Hrivnak, soprano, Lindsey Tootle, violin, and Doug McConnell, composer, whose harpsichord suite based on American folk melodies, Travelin’ Music, concludes the program. Can the harpsichord sometimes sound like a banjo? There is only one way to find out..... Music in Kenwood serves the city of Cincinnati and the surrounding communities by offering a series of diverse concert programs that educate, enlighten and entertain. Sponsored by Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Kenwood, the series celebrates the grace of God through the gift of music.
