Music in Kenwood presents The Blue Wisp Big Band
Founded by drummer John Von Ohlen (veteran of many jazz orchestras including those of Woody Herman and Stan Kenton), and longtime Cincinnati trumpeter Don Johnson, the Blue Wisp Big Band has been the house orchestra for venues such as its namesake, The Blue Wisp in O’Bryonville, Japp’s Annex downtown, Pirate’s Den in Westwood, The Urban Artifact in Northside, and currently at Caffé Vivace in Walnut Hills.
Founding members still active include Herb Aronoff and Larry Dickson (Saxophones), Jeff Folkens (Trumpet), Clarence Pawn and Gary Langhorst (Trombones), Steve Schmidt (Piano) and Michael Sharfe (Bass). The group has toured nationally and has been actively recording since 1981.
