Origin and Evolution of Human Mind, Consciousness and Cognition
Dear Friends!
Neuroscience is one of the most exciting and promising fields of biology, biochemistry, medicine and computation, especially assuming that AI will soon replace us all (no!). It delves into the very nature of humanity - the mechanisms of human consciousness and unique personhood. With that, I chose to devote some of the meetings to progress made in brain research - this time focusing on the origin and evolution of human cognition and consciousness. We will discuss the aspects of human cognition, including tool use and tool fabrication, problem solving and imitation, as well as correlation between high cognitive abilities and the brain. Next, we will delve into the nature, characteristics, neuroscientific theories of origin and neurophysiology of what makes us capable of sentient perception of the world - consciousness.
The meeting will include our presentation, based upon the book edited by Dr. Michel A. Hofman, "Evolution of the human brain: from matter to mind", which contains reviews and original articles by internationally renowned scientist.
