Is the Observatory Haunted?
You will tour the 1873, museum-like, Cincinnati Observatory, a National Historic Landmark. During your basement to attic tour, you will hear the fascinating story of the observatory’s founding in 1842 and why John Quincy Adams traveled to Cincinnati to lay the observatory’s cornerstone.
Also, you will view the observatory’s two historic telescopes, tour the museum, and peek behind the scenes. Learn about the astronomer’s work, including their initiation of weather forecasting, the method of determining time for the City of Cincinnati, their role in winning World War II, and their contributions to the space race.
At the conclusion of the program, the attendees will have an opportunity to describe their potential ghostly or scary experiences while on their tour. The presenter will relate “alleged” ghost or scary stories associated with the observatory.
Following the program, you will have an opportunity to view spectacular views of Saturn and Jupiter, through potentially the oldest, continuously used telescope in the world, weather permitting.
