Vlahos has worked as a registered nurse for eight years, six of those being in hospice. Beyond social media, Vlahos released her New York Times-bestselling debut memoir last summer. Much like her content, The In-Between: Unforgettable Encounters During Life’s Final Moments shares stories of her experiences with patients, rendered with empathy and care.
Vlahos lives with her husband and three children outside of New Orleans. In many ways, death has been a part of her life since childhood; her grandparents were licensed embalmers and funeral directors.
She was raised in a strict religious household, where she began questioning her beliefs after the death of a friend in high school. When she got pregnant at age 19, she went into nursing to support herself and son. Eventually, she fell in love with hospice care.
