The Blue Ash Montgomery Symphony Orchestra is proud to present the world premiere of Douglas Knehans “Purple Heart” at its Memorial Day concert on Monday, May 26 at 7pm at the Tom Stone Amphitheater in Blue Ash Nature Park, 4337 Cooper Road, adjacent to the Blue Ash Recreation Center.
Knehans is the Norman Dinerstein Professor of Composition Scholar at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. Knehans composed the piece imagining his father’s experience fighting at the battle of Okinawa for which he was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for bravery. The concert titled “Under the Sea” will feature selections honoring the navy and all our armed forces such as Richard Rogers’ “Victory at Sea” and our traditional “Armed Forces Salute.” Lighter fare also on the program includes a Pirates of the Caribbean medley and selections from Titanic.
Patrons are invited to register for free tickets at bamso.ludus.com. The audience is encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating. There is plenty of free parking available. The Tom Stone concession stand will be open offering a full menu of hamburgers, brats, hotdogs, chips, Coke products, water, ice cream novelties and popcorn. A portion of the proceeds from concessions will go to the orchestra.
