Postpartum Mental Health for Partners
Saturday, October 25 from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at the West Cook YMCA, 255 S. Marion Street, Wellness Studio 1. Register on or before October 23!*
Becoming a parent is one of life’s most profound transitions. It’s completely normal to feel overwhelmed, anxious, or uncertain alongside the joy and excitement. You’re not alone in this experience, and your mental health matters deeply during this time.
Join Elle Murphy, MSW, LSW, Certified Postpartum Doula, for an essential workshop designed specifically for new and expecting partners. Together, we’ll explore the emotional realities of early parenthood, including the mental health challenges that many partners face but rarely talk about. From postpartum depression and anxiety to feelings of identity shift, relationship changes, and the pressure to “have it all together.”
In this safe, judgment-free space, we’ll discuss practical strategies for managing stress and anxiety, recognizing when you might need additional support, and building healthy coping skills during this major life transition. We’ll also address how to maintain your relationship with your birthing partner while supporting their postpartum journey, finding your parenting confidence, and creating realistic expectations for yourself as a new parent.
You’ll leave this workshop with tools to protect your mental wellness, a deeper understanding of what you might experience, and the knowledge that seeking support is a sign of strength, not weakness. Your role as a parent is vital, and taking care of your mental health isn’t just good for you—it’s good for your whole family.
Come with your questions, concerns, and experiences. Your mental health journey as a partner deserves attention, care, and community.
*Hosting these events often requires reserving space, arranging child care, and the time and expertise of a facilitator. For this reason, we ask that anyone interested register at least 48 hours in advance. If we do not receive the minimum of five registrants by that time, the event may be canceled or postponed due to cost and resource constraints. We understand that advance planning can be challenging for families, so last-minute registrations and attendees are welcome if the event has already met the minimum number of registrants.
