August is National Dog Month, and Evanston is sending it off with a little paws.
On Sunday, August 30, dogs and their humans are invited to celebrate the tail end of National Dog Month at Harley Barke, a free dog-friendly meditation and community gathering on the East Lawn of the historic Harley Clarke Mansion.
Set against one of Evanston’s most beautiful lakefront backdrops, Harley Barke will put a mindful spin on the Dog Days of Summer with a 20-minute guided meditation for people and their pups led by Heaven Meets Earth Yoga Studio, followed by drinks, socializing and free dog treats.
The event offers dog lovers a chance to celebrate the companionship at the heart of National Dog Month while spending some intentional time relaxing with their four-legged family members.
There’s a reason meditating together may be good for both ends of the leash. Dogs naturally respond to human energy and emotional cues, a phenomenon sometimes described as emotional mirroring. When their person achieves a calmer state, it can help an overactive or anxious dog learn to settle down, too.
No meditation experience is necessary. Just bring your dog, find a comfortable spot on the lawn and take a little paws from the everyday.
