How to Uncage Your Trauma (Free Writing Workshop)
Join us for an empowering workshop led by touring authors Rebecca Evans and Hannah Rodabaugh designed to help you tap into your trauma and transform it through writing.
This poetry and essay hybrid workshop is designed to rewild and release the feral and darker side of your writing. The interactive session will guide participants through fresh craft-based writing prompts and innovative exercises that offer a sense of unwounding and restoration.
Participants will find meaning and healing through exploring the positive impacts of rewilding, not only of loss and grief, but of the self. It’s a safe space to express, heal, and connect with others on the same journey.This event is free, accessible, and open to the public. Bring a journal, computer, pen, or whatever you create with.
Secret World Books was founded in 2022 to foster resistance, resilience, and healing in the Chicago area. The bookstore continues to stand up to book bans and other forces that want to tear and erase necessary stories from readers, communities, and cultures.

Ohio native Hannah Rodabaugh is a poet, essayist, and educator who lives in Boise, Idaho. She is the author of four poetry collections including Lost Cathedral (Cornerstone Press), and We Don’t Bury Our Dead When Our Dead Are Animals (Another New Calligraphy), a Pushcart-nominated collection of ecological elegies. She has served as a writer-in-residence for the National Park Service and the Bureau of Land Management. When not writing, she teaches at Boise State University, the College of Western Idaho, and The Cabin, Idaho’s only literary center. She is a plant nerd who loves to hear about other people’s plant obsessions.
Poet, essayist, and memoirist Rebecca Evans is an assault survivor, athlete, coach, and disabled military veteran. She is the author of the poetry collection Tangled by Blood and the flash essay collection AfterBurn (Moon Tide Press). She is also co-editor of the poetry anthology When There Were Nine, a literary tribute to the life and achievements of Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She has facilitated empowerment and writing workshops through the International Women's Writing Guild, Boise State University, University of Nevada, Lake Tahoe, and Narratively Academy. When not creating, you can find her dancing with hummingbirds in her backyard.
