Evanston Jazz--"Donovan's Garage December Show
“Donovan’s Garage” presents an energetic jazz quintet featuring tenor saxophonist James Perkins, Trumpeter
Phil Perkins, bassist Jim Cox, drummer Jeff Stitely, and Donovan on guitar.
THE BACKSTORY: During the summer, jazz guitarist Donovan Mixon’s garage was the hot spot in Evanston for an evening of jazz featuring many of Chicago’s top musicians, playing for the love of it. But it is hard to do in a cold alley. So this winter thanks to the generosity of Evanstonian Steven Rogers, “Donovan’s Garage” has moved to another unconventional performing space--the Christian Science Church in northwest Evanston. Outdoors or inside, “Donovan’s Garage” maintains the same spirit — that of a jazz performance laboratory in which artists collaborate to execute spontaneous improvisations of known and original compositions, giving the audience, a peek behind the curtain of the creative process.
