ALMAS Hosts Naperville’s Second Annual Día de Muertos: Celebrating Community and Life
Alliance of Latinos Motivating Action in the Suburbs (ALMAS) is thrilled to host Naperville’s second annual “Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead): Celebrating Community and Life.” This vibrant community event will take place on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Riverwalk Grand Pavilion in downtown Naperville. Admission is free, and the event is family-friendly. Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, this celebration promises even more memorable experiences.
Día de Muertos is a deeply meaningful tradition in Mexico and across Latin America, celebrating life, memory, and the connections we share with those who have passed. ALMAS invites everyone to experience the beauty and joy of this tradition through a variety of immersive activities.
This celebration is designed to be inclusive and welcoming to all, regardless of race, ethnicity, language, religion, or age. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy an unforgettable day filled with culture, music, and community. Día de Muertos reminds us that love never dies and encourages us to live life to the fullest.
Event Highlights
Step into the heart of Día de Muertos with a range of enriching experiences:
Catrinas, Calavera, Alebrijes Exhibit: View stunning artistic displays that capture the spirit of the celebration.
Panteón: Wander through an artfully designed mock cemetery featuring traditional ofrendas (altars) honoring loved ones.
Reflections of Life Display: Watch cherished memories shared by community members come to life through a moving projector showcase
Community Art: Add to the community art piece by coloring a monarch and dedicating it to a loved one who has passed away.
Education: Discover the history and traditions of Día de Muertos and similar celebrations across Latin America through educational signage displayed throughout the event.
Attendees can also transform into walking art with face painting featuring traditional skull motifs and enjoy free workshops and other hands-on art activities.

Don’t miss exciting performances from talented groups and artists, including: Danzantes Unidos Mitotiliztli, Juan Diego Rojas, Nahui Ollin, Aldo Lopez & La Merazh, Mariachi Los Pumas, Elizette Hernandez and Ballet Folklórico Quetzalcoatl.
