On March 12, 1904, Cook County Deputy Sheriff John Long traveled to what is now 130th and Wolf Lake Blvd to serve Ellis Bennett an eviction notice. Bennett had lived in this hunting lodge - a building that had housed the Delaware exhibition during the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition - for a decade and he was not giving up his home without a fight.
The story of how Bennet came to acquire and live in the Delaware House is a strange tale full of legal intrigue and, most definitely, a shootout.
Join former criminal investigator, author, historian, and lecturer, Ray Johnson and discover all the ins and outs of this lesser known piece of Chicago history.
