Three Art Exhibition Receptions

The Riverside Arts Center invites the public to a Sunday afternoon celebrating three exhibitions: Barbara Ciurej and Lindsay Lochman’s collaborative photography exhibition, Domestic Disruptions in our Freeak Gallery and Sculpture Garden, Rita Grendze’s sculpture and drawings exhibition, You Don’t Have to Love Me in the FlexSpace, and Gosia Plummer’s painting exhibition, Home: Daily Wonders of Riverside at the Town Hall. Please drop in anytime on Sunday, August 30, 2026 from 3:00 to 6:00 pm for the exhibition receptions followed by a private cocktail hour across the street at the Quincy Street Distillery. ------ The Riverside Arts Center’s Freeark Gallery and Sculpture Garden present Domestic Disruptions, featuring the collaborative photography of Barbara Ciurej and Lindsay Lochman, curated by Laura Husar Garcia. An artists talk and closing reception will be held on Saturday, October 10th at 2:00 pm. This exhibition is held in conjunction with Filter Photo Festival. Barbara Ciurej and Lindsay Lochman collaborate on photographic projects that address the confluence of history, myth and popular culture. Their subject matter spans their gendered experience from adolescence to aging and expands into critiques of the social landscape. Staged photography, studio constructions, documentary, alternative processes and artists’ books are varied approaches used in their practice. Their work has been exhibited in the US and internationally and is in the collections of the Art Institute of Chicago, Colorado Photographic Arts Center, H2 Contemporary Museum/Germany, Milwaukee Art Museum, Museum of Modern Art of Rio de Janeiro/Brazil, Museum of Contemporary Photography, Walker Art Center, and Worcester Art Museum. Their artists' books are in the collections of the Yale Center for British Art, Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library, Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Joan Flasch Artists Book Collection, and Bainbridge Island Arts Museum among others. In addition to their shared photographic practice, they are contributing editors to the photographic journal Lenscratch. They maintain studios in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Chicago, Illinois. www.ciurejlochmanphoto.com @barbandlindsaycollaborate ----- The Riverside Arts Center’s FlexSpace is pleased to present You Don’t Have to Love Me, a solo exhibition of sculpture, drawing, and installation by Rita Grendze, curated by Joanne Aono. An artists talk will be held on Saturday, September 12th at 2:00 pm. The exhibition is on view Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 1pm to 5pm through October 31, 2026. Rita Grendze is a Chicago-area artist and educator, born in Canada to Latvian immigrants. Her sculptures, installations, and drawings explore healing, memory, cultural identity, and collective experience, integrating textile processes, participatory engagement, and site-responsive installations. Her art has been shown in solo and group exhibitions at the University of Illinois (Springfield, IL), Lubeznik Center for the Arts (Michigan City, IN), The Plan (Chicago, IL), National Library of Latvia (Riga, Latvia), and the Wormfarm Institute (Reedsburg, WI), among others. Grendze's work is held in public and private collections including The National Museum of Applied Arts, in Riga, Latvia and the Schingoethe Center at Aurora University, Aurora, IL. After receiving a BFA in fiber from the Cleveland Institute of Art and an MFA in fiber from the Cranbrook Academy of Art, she studied folk costume in Latvia on a Fullbright scholarship. She has taught at Waubonsee Community College, Chicago Arts Partnership in Education, the Maryland Institute College of Art, and has served in arts administration for the Geneva Center for the Arts and Water Street Studios. Grendze lives and works in Geneva, Illinois. www.ritagrendze.com @ritagrendze ----- The Riverside Arts Center (RAC) is pleased to present a solo exhibition of art by Riverside resident Gosia (Malgorzata) Plummer at the Riverside Town Hall. The exhibition is on view at 27 Riverside Road from July 9 to November 11, 2026. Gosia (Malgorzata) Plummer has always been interested in art and beauty in her everyday surroundings. In 2020 she began to paint on a regular basis, first in watercolor, and most recently she discovered oils. She takes inspiration from travel, hikes in remote places, but most often from daily walks around beautiful Riverside with her beloved dog Oso, seeing the same things with fresh eyes every time. Plummer has exhibited at Palette and Chisel and the Cornelia Arts Building in Chicago and in the Riverside Arts Center's Members exhibitions. She is a member of Plein Air Painters Chicago, Oil Painters of America, American Women Artists, and the Riverside Arts Center.
