BIOS Project at the Logan Center on August 22nd

BIOS is more than a performance—it is a sacred space where stories take form through the human body. In this annual festival, Ballet 5:8 invites audiences to experience dance not just as art, but as living testimony. Led by choreographers Rachel Hutsell, Jasmine Getz, Jenni Richards, and Silvita Diaz Brown, BIOS amplifies voices too often left at the margins of ballet and contemporary dance. These artists bring their distinct perspectives—shaped by culture, memory, and lived experience—to the stage through powerful new works. Their stories—resilient, raw, and radiant—anchor the movement, challenging audiences to witness the beauty that rises from pain, the joy that persists in the face of adversity, and the shared humanity that connects us all. This year’s festival features a compelling range of pieces, from deeply personal solos to collaborative ensemble creations. Themes of identity, loss, faith, justice, and rebirth emerge not through spectacle, but through honest, embodied storytelling. The name BIOS comes from the Greek word for “life.” And true to its name, this festival is a living, breathing mosaic of human experience. Whether rooted in cultural memory, family legacy, or spiritual awakening, each piece is both a mirror and a window: a reflection of self and an invitation to see the world through someone else’s eyes.
