Join Flor Flores for a walkthrough of mirror moment. Moving through the exhibition with the artist, you’ll hear about the process behind the works and how Kiki, a queer monarch butterfly, has guided their making. The walkthrough will weave in performative and sensorial elements—gestures, presence, and attention to the body—that connect directly to the exhibition’s themes of touch, transformation, and reflection.
About the exhibition
Flor Flores: mirror moment is an exhibition of new and recent works by transdisciplinary artist and poet Flor Flores. The artist’s process of creating these paintings, drawings, sculptures, poems, and textile-based installations center on a caring and poetic channeling of Kiki, a butterfly. The artist has recent lifted divisions previously existing between the various artforms, noting this was possible after “Kiki showed me the way”. Folding, holding, flapping, flitting, touching, and shifting are actions Flor has learned from the butterfly, creating a new playground for experimentation and transformation with their own shifting body and identity.
About the Artist
Flor Flores is a transdisciplinary artist and poet based in Chicago. Their current body of work emerges from an intuitive practice of channeling Kiki, a queer monarch butterfly who embodies change, desire, and fluid form. Kiki becomes a way of thinking through transformation—how the self touches the world and is touched in return. Through this channeling, Flor explores identity as something porous, gathered through touch, gesture, and color. Flowers often appear as reflections of the body—blooming, dissolving, becoming again.
Flor has recently exhibited solo shows at Everybody Gallery, Chicago Artists Coalition, and Lula Café. Their work has been featured in publications and reviews including Artmaze, Sixty Inches From Center, New American Paintings, Newcity Art, Chicago Artist Writers, Tripwire, and Monsters & Dust. They have performed at the Poetry Foundation and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago and are currently represented by Good Naked Gallery. Flor is an editor at Kiki Club Editions and recently published Kiki: A Sky of Changing Lights.
