LYNX Project Presents Snapshots of Every Voice: Performers
On Saturday, April 22, LYNX presents the second iteration of their Snapshots of Every Voice series, featuring favorite musical selections from performers Veena Akama-Makia (mezzo-soprano), Pauline Tan (mezzo-soprano), Samuel James Dewse (baritone), with pianist and LYNX Artistic Director, Florence Mak. Join LYNX for a beautiful afternoon of song ranging from works by local composers of the past and present, including Florence Price and Shawn E. Okpebholo, to the more traditional rep of the song canon by Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann and Gerald Finzi. There is something for everyone!
Snapshots of Every Voice embraces the intimate genre of art song to showcase the diversity and richness of the repertoire, allowing our artists to share music that deeply resonates within all of us.
Hailed by the Chicago Tribune for its " stirring contributions to the art song genre", LYNX, also known as LYNX Project, is a Chicago-based nonprofit organization that amplifies diverse voices through new song commissions, inclusive concerts, and educational programming. Founded in 2015, LYNX was formed to revitalize the genre of art song and share it with new audiences.
This performance celebrates the vocalists from this year’s Amplify Series. The Amplify Series commissions composers to set the works of autistic poets who are primarily nonspeaking to music. Now in its fifth year of commissions, the series has commissioned over 40 writers, composers, and performers and generated over four hours of new music. This year’s commissions will be premiered in concert on May 20th.
LYNX prides itself on facilitating an inclusive concert atmosphere. Accommodations at this performance will include a relaxed atmosphere where movement, fidgets, and stims are welcome in the space. In addition, LYNX asks audience members to refrain from clapping, and instead, use handwaving and snapping to show appreciation for the performance.
Snapshots of Every Voice: Performers will take place on Saturday, April 22 at 4:00pm at PianoForte Studios (1335 S Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60605). Tickets are $30 for general admission and can be purchased here: https://www.lynxproject.org/calendar/2023/4/8/snapshots-of-every-voice-performers
