Film Screening & Discussion - "A Time for Burning"

This award-winning and Oscar nominated film documents the story of the struggle for racial reconciliation in Omaha in the 1960's when the pastor of a white Lutheran congregation attempts an outreach to two nearby Black churches. "My Omaha", a second documentary that was inspired by this film, will be screened and discussed at the Oak Park Main Library on Wednesday, September 16th from 6:15 - 8:30 pm and at the Unity Temple Community Center (1019 South Boulevard, Oak Park) on Sunday, September 20th from 12:30 - 2:30 pm. It is highly recommended that "A Time for Burning" be viewed before seeing "My Omaha" because "A Time for Burning" is the backstory for "My Omaha". Together these two films invite us to examine the ongoing search for truth and common ground between the Black community and the larger, dominant white community, not just in Omaha churches, but across our nation. The Oak Park sponsors of these film screenings and discussions are Congregations Networking for Social Justice (CNSJ), Together is Better Alliance (TiBA), Unity Temple Unitarian Universalist Congregation and Euclid Avenue United Methodist Church.
