Steep Canyon Rangers

About Steep Canyon Rangers: Hailing from both the Appalachian and Piedmont regions of North Carolina, the Rangers have long held traditional bluegrass paramount, while possessing an exceptional ability to bring it down the mountain, and to incorporate accessible influence from all walks of the region. With the band’s last few albums, they have gained recognition from well beyond the world of bluegrass, earning a reputation as some of the most influential songwriters in Americana today. Newcomer to this ship, Aaron Burdett, brings a soul-stirring element to the Rangers’ mastery of mountain music. Burdett is an award-winning singer-songwriter, and a student of folk tradition. He provides a fresh, emotional context to the songbook, which “can reach out and touch your heart or slap you in the face,” to use the praise of drummer and multi-instrumentalist, Mike Ashworth. Steep Canyon Rangers is made up of Graham Sharp on banjo and vocals, Mike Guggino on mandolin/mandola and vocals, Aaron Burdett on guitar and vocals, Nicky Sanders on fiddle and vocals, Mike Ashworth on drums and vocals, and Barrett Smith on bass, guitar, and vocals. Over the band’s esteemed career, the three-time Grammy nominees have released 14 studio albums, three collaborative albums with actor and banjoist Steve Martin, been inducted into the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame, and appeared on some of music’s biggest stages. In 2013, Nobody Knows You won the GRAMMY Award for Best Bluegrass Album, while 2012’s Rare Bird and 2020’s North Carolina Songbook garnered nominations in the same category. About Aidan Muse: Aidan Muse is a 12 year old award winning banjo player and performer from Twin Lakes, Wisconsin. He has earned 1st (2021/’23/’24) and 2nd (2022) place titles at the East Troy, WI Bluegrass Festival Banjo Competition, and was awarded blue ribbons and the Kenosha County Fair Merit Award for Musical performance in 2022, ‘23 and ‘24. Aidan’s story was also featured in 2023 on CBS 58 Milwaukee Sunday Morning. In 2023, Aidan appeared as the featured Woodsongs Kid for “Banjo Night” on Woodsongs Old Time Radio Hour, and as a featured performer on Season 2 of the new Woodsongs Kids Series - both are filmed/broadcast from the historic Lyric Theatre in Lexington, KY. The show is broadcast on over 500 radio stations worldwide, via live webcast, on-line streaming, video/audio podcast, on PBS airing in 90 million households, the RFD network, and on the American Forces Radio Network. Aidan is a member of Tomorrow’s Bluegrass Stars, and was selected to perform at the 2023 IBMA World of Bluegrass Festival in Raleigh, NC as part of Kids on Bluegrass. Aidan recently appeared in 2024 at MerleFest in Wilkesboro, NC as an Acoustic Kids Ambassador, and performed his debut single "Farmer" live on the Dance Stage and Log Cabin Stage. Aidan's debut single “Farmer” was officially released in May of 2024, and is available on all streaming platforms. Written by Ricky Dunn, and produced, arranged, and performed by Aidan Muse, “Farmer” addresses an issue very close to Aidan’s heart - supporting the hardworking farmer. Growing up in America’s Dairyland, Aidan took an interest in animals and agriculture at a young age. Incredibly active in, and outspoken about his 4-H involvement, Aidan aspires to have his own farm someday. In the meantime, he hopes this song will inspire anyone who hears it, to say “thank you” to the men and women in agriculture that work so hard to provide for all of us! In addition to playing banjo, Aidan loves reading, art and creative writing. Two of his original pieces were published in the 2023 Southern Lakes Anthology – including his “One-in-a-Million” composition, written about the experience of first meeting his banjo teacher and mentor, Gary “Biscuit” Davis. Aidan also loves the outdoors and is incredibly passionate about 4H. He is an active 4H member, and enjoys participating in the fishing project, working with and showing horses in the Horseless Horse Project, and raising and showing his chickens for the Small Animal Project.
