Preserve your garden's harvest and enjoy the taste of summer in the winter months. The lesson will cover the basics of multiple types of preservation, including home canning, freezing, dehydration, and fermentation. Seasoned home canners will hear about updates in the canning process and those new to preserving will gain confidence to get started.
The program will be presented by Caitlin Mellendorf, an Illinois Extension Nutrition and Wellness Educator. As a registered Dietitian, her work focuses on helping community members gain the knowledge, skills and tools to live healthier, more nutritious lifestyles.
A technician from the Illinois Extension will be at the event to test pressure canner pressure gauges. The testing will be free and pressure gauges should be tested annually.
