On August 21st, in partnership with Jane Addams Hull house and Urban Rivers, join us for "EarthCraft" a day of art workshop, lectures, and a vibrant outdoor vendor market celebrating how creative collaboration can help build a more just, sustainable future. Whether you're into mycology, science illustration, urban ecology, or just love a good craft table, EarthCraft offers a welcoming space to learn, connect, and co-create! 🕛 12–6 PM at Jane Addams Hull-House Museum 800 South Halsted Street Chicago, IL 60607 Location: Our lectures and art workshops will be held in the Hull-House’s Residents’ Dining Hall, a historic space that once served as the heart of Hull-House community life. Workshops + Lecture Schedule: 🔥 Fire – 1 PM: Learn how animation and drawing can be translated to ceramic tiles! Clay can be treated like a canvas. Artists can draw directly into wet clay using tools to carve lines, textures, or patterns. These markings can then be photographed sequentially, altering them slightly between shots to produce animated effects. Workshop facilitated by Haylie Jimenez ☁️Air — 2 PM: Kite Making Soar into creativity! Learn how to make a kite using sustainable materials. Workshop facilitated by teaching artists Eseosa Ebebiri and Kevi Montgomery! 🌱Earth —3 PM: Basket weaving + local food foraging In this workshop, we’ll discuss how to find pine needles suitable for baskets, learn about modern basketry techniques with thread for weaving pine needle baskets, and discuss the anthropology of basket weaving. We’ll also cover how to identify, harvest, and use wild foods safely while practicing sustainable foraging, all in the heart of Chicago’s urban landscape. Workshop facilitated by: Shane A. Edwards, forager and botanist, The Wild Dryad 💧Water — 4 PM: Learn how you can help Chicago’s river system! Join Sage Rossman from Urban Rivers to explore local waterway conservation and create seed bombs (wildflower-packed clusters that bring greenery and pollinator habitats to the city)! Performances: 12:30 PM — Song Circle hosted by Ultra-Violet Archer: Chicago's experimental folk-rock powerhouse, weaving Celtic-Appalachian roots with city sounds through vocal looping and guitar. She'll also lead a participatory singing circle to lift us all up! 4PM — Puppet Dhow by Jabberwocky Marionettes 🎭Handmade animal puppets inspired by science and wild stories, brought to life by Amber Marsh and crew. Proud collaborators with the Field Museum, Shedd Aquarium, Lyric Opera, and more, they're Chicago's puppet magic makers you don't want to miss! 5PM — Concert performance by Hypothetical Star [STAR] : An "air" themed performance blending original music, video projections, and cosmic storytelling from an electronic artist. Expect space vibes, rare artifacts, and a truly out of this world jam session. Location: Hull-House Museum lobby 🛍 Outdoor Art Market (12PM - 6 PM) Location: The outdoor market will be in the courtyard between the Hull-House Museum and Dining Hall. Ronny Bass - is a queer-owned, Chicago-based clothing brand founded by nonbinary designer Dana. Known for gender-inclusive apparel and accessories, the brand emphasizes self-expression, authenticity, and community support, donating proceeds to causes that matter. Catherine Carrol - is a printmaker and designer specializing in hand-cut and hand-drawn prints. Their work blends bold imagery, intricate patterns, and playful textures to create unique, handcrafted designs. Rip Purposed - Domingo Papalotl is a Chicanx artist and educator based in Chicago, known for their sustainable taxidermy "queer-acions" crafted from ethically sourced insects and bones. Through RIP Repurposed, Domingo creates heirloom-quality altar items and jewelry that honor life cycles and celebrate marginalized communities. Their work reflects a commitment to sustainability, community care, and the preservation of beauty in all forms. 🎨 Decompression Craft Zone Unwind and get creative at your own pace! Enjoy relaxing, hands on crafts, including figurine building with found objects in nature. Crafting table facilitators: Mira Chanselmo, Atta Zatta, Trash Goblins Location: The decompression craft table will be in the courtyard between the Hull-House Museum and Dining Hall.
