Cristina Henríquez: Unsung Heroes of the Panama Canal
Novelist Cristina Henríquez was a finalist for the Dayton Literary Peace Prize and a New York Times Notable Book-winner for her previous work, The Book of Unknown Americans. She brings Chicago Humanities reflections from her highly anticipated novel, The Great Divide, which explores the intersecting, but historically forgotten lives of the activists, fishmongers, laborers, journalists, doctors, and soothsayers who were impacted by the construction of the Panama Canal. Calling Illinois home, Cristina is a graduate of Northwestern University whose work has widely appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, The New York Times and The Oxford American.
