Join the Historical Society of Forest Park on Friday, August 2, 2025, at Casa Humilde for a powerful event marking the 110th anniversary of the Eastland Disaster. The Eastland Disaster Historical Society will present the story of the tragic capsizing of the S.S. Eastland in the Chicago River in 1915, which claimed the lives of 844 people—many of them young workers headed to a company picnic. Among the victims were two residents of Forest Park, and many others are buried in Forest Park cemeteries. We will gather at 12:00 noon to order food and drinks (not included in the ticket), and the talk will begin at 12:30 p.m., lasting about an hour. After the presentation, we will walk to nearby Concordia Cemetery to visit the graves of several victims. Each ticket includes a copy of our booklet featuring the stories and burial locations of Eastland victims laid to rest in Forest Park.
