This East Coast favorite, straight from Clifton, New Jersey, is sure to satisfy your cravings as we celebrate the spooky season. The Ripper is no ordinary hot dog. Inspired by the iconic Rutt’s Hut—a North Jersey institution since 1928—the Ripper gets its name from the way it’s cooked. A pork and beef Thumann’s Link is deep-fried until the natural casing cracks and "rips" open, delivering a perfect crunch with every bite. But it’s not just the preparation that makes this hot dog a legend. The real magic lies in the famous mustard and cabbage relish, a recipe passed down from Rutt’s founders, Abe and Anna Rutt. Next time you’re at Rutt’s Hut, stop by for a quick Frenchie one, traveling Ripper and Birchie. That’s Rutt “speak” for a side of fries, a hot dog, and Boylan’s Birch Beer to go! Bitter Pops’ Spin At Bitter Pops, we’re putting our own twist on this classic. Our Ripper starts with a 7” all-natural casing Vienna Beef hot dog, deep-fried to perfection until the casing “rips.” We then top it with our version of Abe and Anna’s original relish, featuring cabbage, carrots, onions, green peppers, and a special blend of spices made in-house.
