Unresolved issues from the past come to a head when a determined and ambitious library board member clashes with an equally strong-willed public library director, over the control of books and programs. Hank Bayle, who is running his own stepson for the board, is not ready to back down. Nor is Jean Novak, despite a dispute she had with Hank when she was a young school librarian.
