“Ghost” Reappears on March 29th in a Free Screening for 2025 SWAN Day

International SWAN Day – a project born in Illinois in 2004 to Support Women Artists Now® – is now an annual event held worldwide on the last Saturday of Women’s History Month to celebrate the achievements of women in the Applied Arts, Cinema Arts, Literary Arts, Performance Arts, and Visual Arts, and to advocate for freedom of expression in all human endeavors. According to founder Jan Lisa Huttner of FF2 Media® (who now lives in Brooklyn): “Celebrating International SWAN Day is even more important this year with the administration’s reduced support for cultural programming. As SWANs, we are mobilizing to fight back against these excessive cutbacks.” “International SWANs® deliberately chose the last Saturday of March so that Women’s History Month would always end by honoring the artists who inspire us,” said Jan. And we chose “Ghost” starring Demi Moore because when she gave her acceptance speech on January 5, 2025 – the night she accepted the 2025 Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Demi captured both the resilience and persistence of women all around the world at this historic juncture. “We know it was no accident that Demi received her first major award – in a career spanning more than 40 years – in a film written and directed by a woman filmmaker,” Jan continued. “Demi received a Golden Globe nomination in 1991 for her performance in ‘Ghost’ (in which she plays a sculptor named Molly preparing for her first public exhibition), and then... nothing but Razzies.” “Thirty years ago,” said Demi in January, “a producer told me I was a popcorn actress. I could do successful movies but couldn’t be acknowledged as a serious one... And as I was at a low point, this magical, bold, courageous, out-of-the-box bonkers script [Coralie Fargeat’s ‘The Substance’] came across my desk. And the universe told me I wasn’t done.” The screening at the AMC Evanston 12 on March 29 at 1:30 pm is FREE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC, however seating is limited, so you must have a ticket to be admitted.
