New book club begins with "Killers of a Certain Age"

A new book club, co-sponsored by Cantata Adult Life Services and Linda Sokol Francis Brookfield Library, is open to all as one of many ways during 2025 when Cantata Adult Life Services is celebrating a century of service to seniors and their families who live in western Cook County and eastern DuPage County. The first meeting begins at 6:30pm on Thursday, March 20, at Cantata’s Wye Valley Independent Living Community, 2940 McCormick Ave., Brookfield. There is ample parking on Cantata’s campus. To launch this book club, “Killers of a Certain Age” by Deanna Raybourn was selected to illustrate how interesting life can be for older adults as they consider retirement. Wine and refreshments will be served. Make a reservation and order a copy of Raybourn’s book, which is available in print, large print, e-book and audio formats, by visiting www.lsfbrookfieldlibrary.org or calling 708-485-6917. Print editions will be available for pick-up starting on Monday, Feb. 17, at LSF Brookfield Library, 3541 Park Ave, Brookfield. In celebration of its centennial, Cantata and LSF Brookfield Library decided to launch a new book club featuring works by British and American authors. Some British writers will be featured to pay tribute to Cantata’s founding by the Daughters of the British Empire, which still supports the senior living community. The book club also will meet in May, July, September and November. Selected titles and dates will be announced when they are confirmed.
