North America’s largest and most immersive touring Titanic experience sails into Charlotte for the first time this spring and summer. “Titanic: The Exhibition” takes guests on an interactive experience of the design, construction, maiden voyage and tragic ending in 1912 of the world’s largest ship at that time. This includes genuine artifacts, detailed re-creations of the ship's interior and a gallery showcasing the discovery of the Titanic wreckage site 2.5 miles down on the ocean floor.
Every visitor receives a boarding card of an actual passenger on the ship — allowing them to trace that individual passenger’s story. Music from the era plays throughout as patrons view exquisitely detailed replicas of the ship's interiors, including the famous grand staircase, first-class hallway and millionaires’ suite, third-class hallway and accommodations, plus the promenade deck complete with a starry night sky.
The Discovery Gallery offers an in-depth look at the Titanic’s wreckage and final resting site. It features a glass floor simulating the sea-floor debris field. The gallery includes a captivating film that provides forensic research related to the ship’s collision with an iceberg, break-up and sinking in the North Atlantic on April 15, 1912.
A new gallery, “Titanic’s Connections to the Carolinas,” debuts specifically for the Charlotte exhibition. It includes proof that the ship’s original distress signal was received at NC’s Cape Hatteras Weather Station a full 15 minutes earlier than historians previously documented.
