If you live in Charlotte, have a household income of $60,000 or less, and need help preparing your tax return, mark Saturday, March 18 on your calendar.
Community Link will host its “Taxathon Day” on March 18 from 10 am to 3 pm, offering free tax preparation for lower-income income individuals and families. Community Link is located at 601 E 5th Street, Suite 500, in Charlotte. No advance registration is needed. Assistance is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Along with the Taxathon Day, Community Link also provides free tax preparation services on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm. The service runs Monday, April 17. Again, no advance registration is needed.
Trained volunteers prepare the tax returns. The volunteers are certified by the IRS to ensure quality and accuracy in filing.
To have your tax return prepared, please bring:
- A photo ID
- Social Security card for each taxpayer and dependent
- Last year’s tax return
- Voided blank check or online banking information for direct deposit of any tax refund.
Other documents might be required to complete your return. In some circumstances, such as taxpayers in bankruptcy, Community Link is unable to prepare the return.
Community Link is a non-profit that helps people obtain and sustain safe, decent, and affordable housing. This is the 18th year that Community Link has participated in VITA, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.
