Community Impact Film Series: Homelessness

The Independent Picture Houses’s (IPH) Community Impact Film Series sparks dialogue and builds bridges between people and organizations through the power of film. On Saturday, November 11, from 10am – 2pm, join IPH for our free November event focused on homelessness. This will include: 10 -11 am: A Resource Fair in the Charlotte Art League Gallery Space. Organizations at the Resource Fair will include Roof Above, Samaritan House, United Way of Greater Charlotte, Project Outpour, Habitat for Humanity of the Charlotte Region, and Pivot Point Transitional Housing. The 7-piece Queens City Jazz Band will perform in the theater. Representatives from Roof Above will instruct guests on making sandwiches for their residents. Coffee and treats will be available. Pivot Point Transitional Housing will have a housing prototype on display in front of IPH. Photos of individuals facing homelessness from AboutFace’s campaign Neighbors will be on display. 11 am – 12:30 pm: A screening of Susanne Suffredin’s @home followed by a talkback session. This discussion will be moderated by Liz Clasen-Kelly (CEO of Roof Above) and include Susanne Suffredin (director of “@home”), Mark Horvath (subject of “@home”), Rodney Tucker (Executive Director of Samaritan House), and Laura Yates Clark (President & CEO of United Way of Greater Charlotte). 12:30 – 2 pm: A 3-piece version of the Queen City Jazz Band will perform in the Gallery Space while the Resource Fair continues. Beverages and treats will be available.
