If ‘tropical’ was a plant meme, surely it would be a palm. We will start with the unique construction of this large family of plants known as Palm – what defines a palm, understanding the importance and distinctions of native and ornamental palms, the best choices for Southwest Florida and their care. Taught by experienced Horticulturists who regularly work with nearly 100 palm species, this program will provide the tools for ‘reading’ palms to recognize nutritional issues, maintenance practices, and proper feeding and pruning of various species well suited for our landscapes. Current issues facing certain species of palms in Florida will be covered. The last hour of the program will be a tour and Q&A session in our Palmetum.
Participants will each receive a palm seedling propagated at Edison Ford, a bottle of water and a copy of all the teaching materials covered in the class. Class will be held at the Berne Davis/SW Florida Garden Council Building on Larchmont Avenue. Register online at edisonford.org.
Edison Ford members: $45; non-members: $60
