Creative Thinking as a Crucial Skill for Teaching and Learning

All sectors now recognize the crucial role creative thinking and creative problem-solving play in professional and personal success. LinkedIn, for example, identified creative thinking as the number one workplace skill. And the World Economic Forum listed creativity as the fifth most important workplace skill for the year 2025. The purpose of this workshop is to share fundamental principles associated with creative thinking, with a focus on how this critical ability can be facilitated through educational and training practices. Our speaker, Dr. Gerard J. Puccio, is a State University of New York Distinguished Professor and Department Chair for the Center for Applied Imagination at Buffalo State University. He holds a Ph.D. in organizational psychology from the University of Manchester, England. He has written more than 60 articles, chapters, and books. His most recent book, “Organizational Creativity and Innovation: A Personal Journey for Innovators and Entrepreneurs” (2018 by Sage Press), highlights the crucial role creativity plays in an economy driven by innovation. Puccio is an accomplished speaker and consultant. He has worked with major corporations, universities, and numerous school districts. Some of his recent clients include the BBC, Fisher-Price Brands, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Nestlé, The Smithsonian Institution, BNP Paribas, Rubbermaid, Coca-Cola, and the Fashion Institute of Technology. He has delivered creativity workshops and presentations across the United States and in more than 20 different countries. The luncheon main course is a choice of Pasta Primavera, Chicken Milanese with dressed greens and risotto, or Filet of Sirloin with risotto and vegetables. All choices include a house salad, homemade bread and spreads, coffee, tea, and gelato or a fruit cup.
