Antônio Carlos Jobim was a Brazilian composer who is often called the “Father of Bossa Nova,” as he was such a dynamic force behind the creation of the bossa nova style. In the 1960’s, with the help of important American artists, he merged bossa nova with jazz to create an innovative and highly popular sound. Jobim’s compositions have since been recorded and performed internationally by hundreds of singers and instrumentalists.
Garota de Ipanema (The Girl from Ipanema) has become one of the most recorded songs of all time. Many of his works, including Desafinado, Meditation, Corcovado, Wave, and Waters of March have become jazz and pop standards. Still, there are some captivating lesser-known compositions that deserve to be heard.
Featuring Cheryl Ferris – vocals, Stu Weissman – guitar, Bobby Jones – piano, Paul LaDuca – bass, and Matt Harris – tenor saxophone
