Join us for a screening of American Dreams: Norman Rockwell and the Saturday Evening Post, a historical documentary examining how Rockwell’s illustrations came to define a powerful visual narrative of American life. Long before television entered every home, Rockwell’s magazine covers reached millions, offering scenes of family, work, celebration, and civic life that helped form a shared cultural imagination.
Following the screening, guests will participate in a curator-led tour of USA250: Celebrating the American Vision. The exhibition brings together works from CAM’s permanent collection that reflect the many ways artists have interpreted America — sometimes idealistic, sometimes critical, always evolving.
Together, the film and exhibition invite us to consider how art both reflects and influences the national story. What does it mean to picture America? Who gets represented? How has that vision changed over time — and how is it still being shaped today?
As the nation approaches its 250th anniversary, this program offers an opportunity to reflect on the images that have defined the past and the perspectives that will shape the future.
Registration encouraged.
