Buffalo is known for its summer art exhibits as well as for its state’s rich geological heritage, as GemStreet USA will blend those under one roof. This family-friendly event offers attendees a unique opportunity to explore a diverse array of minerals, fossils and gemstones, as well as a bevy of handmade jewelry. Plus, for those who like to make their own jewelry, there will be beads galore.
The exhibitors include artists coming from New York to Hawaii, with gemstones and minerals mined from around the world.
One of the show’s owners and exhibitors, Erika Hartke, of Erika’s Bead Creative, will be showcasing high quality and uniquely cut gemstone strands from India. This season she has a large selection of turquoise, labradorite and kyanite stones. She also carries an eclectic collection of metal components, chains, pendants and other jewelry-making supplies.
A native New Yorker who lives in East Amherst, Erika’s passion for jewelry started when her father’s best friend Jim Puglisi, a well-known lapidary teacher, started to show her how to make jewelry when she was just three years old. She is now sharing this lifelong passion with others by selling jewelry findings and making jewelry to inspire others.
“I strive to find the most unique cuts and stones you don’t see everywhere, such as diagonal drill through faceted drop beads that look like cascading flowers,” Erika says. “Plus, I have different shaped stones in cuts of moons, stars and clouds.”
Another New York exhibitor, Meliora Crystals & Minerals, from Batavia, specializes in rare minerals from around the world including high-end fluorite and zeolites direct from India, and handmade unique Orgonite pyramids. “We carry specimens for the beginner all the way up to the most hardcore collector,” says owner Linda Tomporowski. “We love rocks and love it even more when customers find that special piece to add to or start their collection.”
While there will be several local artists and exhibitors at the show, you’ll also meet others from across the country, including David Leung of Treasure Talk. Traveling from Hawaii to Buffalo for the GemStreet Show, he brings a collection of fine jewelry and jade carvings. He will be featuring a rainbow of colors of Brazilian tourmaline designed in rings, earring and pendants. These sought-after gemstones are known for their vivid colors and rarity.
The event is expected to attract visitors from across Western New York and beyond, making it a must-visit destination for gem enthusiasts and families alike.
