Show Up Buffalo
How an online women's support group spurred a national call to action
When JJ Murnane lost her father in May of this year, she had a realization: “How we spend our time here is up to us,” she wrote. “How much of our life do we simply choose to exist and how much do we choose to show up for?”
With the support of her mother, aunt, and dear friend, JJ created a Facebook group dedicated to the encouragement of women showing up for one another. Show Up started as a simple but powerful concept of a safe space for women to share all manner of personal stories and seek advice in a virtual community where others could assure them that they are not alone.
Then, when a woman rose to the top of the 2024 presidential ticket, the group exploded into a national movement of women from all walks of life regardless of political party affiliation, race, sexual orientation, or anything else that is weaponized to create an “us vs. them” mentality. Show Up is about supporting women. Period.
Today, Show Up rallies, marches, and walks are scheduled for October 19th 2024 in cities across all 50 states and the US Virgin Islands, including Buffalo, NY. The groups in participating cities will be made up of anyone, male or female, who wish to collectively spread the message, with love and hope, that no woman will be left behind because we will not go back.
Join the Buffalo, NY branch of Show Up on Saturday October 19th by the steps of City Hall at 2:00 PM where we will hear from inspiring women of our community and walk a short route to share our joyful vision of a tomorrow where we will move forward together.
