An old toy piano takes center stage in a brand-new kind of recital designed to enchant, empower, and inspire.
The Dusty Piano: A Storytelling Recital, created by educator and pianist Dr. Antonella Di Giulio, will take place on June 14, 2025 at the Asbury UMC in Getzville. This immersive musical experience invites children and families into a gentle world where each note unlocks a memory—and each child finds their voice.
At the heart of the stage is a dusty, broken piano that no longer plays—but still remembers. Each story has been assigned one of its silent keys. When that key is “pressed,” the story begins—told through a short piece of music they perform. These stories, imagined by children ages 4 to 8, range from everyday adventures to whimsical reflections: a mother going to Target, a football dream, a night by candlelight.
“This is not a traditional recital,” said Dr. Di Giulio. “It’s an invitation for children to experience music as storytelling, not perfection. They are not performing for an audience—they are with the audience, weaving a shared story.”
The experience includes light narration, visual storytelling, interactive program booklets for young audience members, and a celebratory ice cream social after the performance.
