In this orientation & safety class, you'll learn how to read and understand sewing patterns — one of the most important skills for any sewer! We'll break down the symbols, markings, and instructions found in patterns so they no longer feel intimidating. By the end of class, you'll feel confident picking up any pattern and knowing exactly what to do. All materials provided!
What You Will Learn:
How to read and understand sewing pattern instructions
What common sewing pattern symbols and markings mean
How to select the right pattern size for your measurements
How to lay out and cut your fabric using a pattern
How to follow a pattern from start to finish with confidence
Upon completion, and with a pay-what-you-can donation to The Foundry, you'll be eligible to use our Makerspaces during Open Maker Hours (Mondays 6–9pm & Saturdays 9am–1pm) to continue building your skills and work on personal projects with support from our trained supervisors.
