‘Daughters of Nantucket’ book launch

Former Scarsdale resident Julie Gerstenblatt will discuss her first novel, “Daughters of Nantucket,” in the Scott Room Sunday, March 26, at 3 p.m. Nantucket in 1846 is an island set apart not just by its geography but by its unique circumstances. With its menfolk away at sea, often for years at a time, women here know a rare independence — and the challenges that go with it. Set against Nantucket’s Great Fire of 1846, this sweeping, emotional novel brings together three courageous women battling to save everything they hold dear. Gerstenblatt holds a doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Teachers College, Columbia University and has taught everything from middle school to graduate school. Her essays have appeared in The Huffington Post, Kveller, Cognoscenti, Grown & Flown, and The Scarsdale Inquirer, among others. She graduated from Edgemont High School in 1988, and then returned years later to work as a middle school English teacher at Scarsdale Middle School from about 2000-08, living in Fox Meadow. Her children attended Fox Meadow Elementary School and the middle school until they moved to Rhode Island in 2014. When not writing, she is a college essay coach as well as a producer and on-air host for A Mighty Blaze, which has grown into a leading resource for author interviews. A native New Yorker, she now lives in coastal Rhode Island with her family and one very smart Shichon poo. Bronx River Books will be available for book purchase. Register at https://bit.ly/3Z9KHaw.
