"Our hearts are restless," an auction of paintings at Our Lady of Perpetual Help-Pelham, April 25-26

Over the weekend of April 25-26, the parish will conduct a silent auction of 27 paintings by Joe DiCarlo, as well as an exhibition of his paintings and drawings at the OLPH gymnasium on Fowler Avenue in Pelham Manor. Joe favored Biblical themes and frequently painted Jesus, including multiple versions of the crucifixion. Joe also painted contemporary public figures, including Malcolm X, Ernest Hemingway, Bob Dylan, and Woody Guthrie. The purpose of the auction is to raise funds to install an elevator connecting the church, which is ADA compliant, to the St. Joseph Parish Hall and offices one floor below. The auction was made possible by the artist’s sister, Norine DiCarlo, a Pelham native and longtime OLPH parishioner, who inherited her brother’s collection of paintings, drawings and writings. She believes that donating Joe’s art to make Our Lady of Perpetual Help and its parish hall accessible to all is an ideal way to honor her brother. The silent auction of Joe's work opens on Friday April 24 at 9 AM on the website 32auctions. The public exhibition of Joe’s works will open with a wine and cheese reception at the OLPH gym and auditorium on Saturday, April 25, from 6 to 8 PM. The exhibition and auction will continue on Sunday, April 26, from 9 AM to 4 PM, when bidding closes.
