Northern Valley Regional High School at Old Tappan Musical: Cats
This year’s All School Musical Production at Northern Valley Old Tappan High School is CATS. CATS, an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, is one of the longest-running shows in West End and Broadway history. CATS has been presented in over 30 countries, translated into 16 languages, and seen by more than 73 million people worldwide.
CATS tells the stories of the Jellicle Cats who come out once a year for the Jellicle Ball. One by one, they share their stories with Old Deuteronomy, their sage leader, who must choose one of them to ascend to the Heaviside Layer and be reborn into a new Jellicle life. Each song uses lyrics from T.S. Elliot's poems, originally published in Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats.
These cats’ stories aren’t always the happiest - they’ve been neglected, unloved & some are past their prime. Just as these cats are looking to start over again with their next Jellicle life, many rescue animals, right here in our community, are looking to ascend to their own Heaviside Layer - a new life with a loving family. To raise awareness of animals in need of rescue & the wonderful, life-altering work our local rescue organizations do, this year’s cast & crew are partnering with CLAWS, a local animal rescue. They will be collecting donations to assist in the rescue and care of abandoned animals in the hopes that this will aid in helping these animals to find their happy ending.
