Healing Measures: Installation Opening & Artist Talk

Drawing inspiration from interviews and workshops with the JCCMW community members, Healing Measures explores human experiences of pain and healing, transforming our space into one of reflection, vulnerability, and shared connection. Light refreshments will be served. Admission: $18 About the Installation Healing Measures is a community-centered artwork by Goldvicht that explores the profound collective knowledge of human healing. In this site-specific installation at the JCC, Goldvicht gathered personal stories from members of diverse faiths and cultural backgrounds. These narratives reflect the many stages of life—from the sorrow of loss and the complexities of parenthood to the quiet struggles embedded in daily existence. Through these voices, the work weaves a poetic investigation to human mechanisms of pain and healing as well as the different ways one attempts to repair the irreparable. The installation, on the main ramp inside the building, functions as an intimate sanctuary, inviting visitors into a communal space where private, often unspoken stories are shared in this text based work, creating a communal space to contemplate vulnerability and encourage reflection on the ways we tend to our inner wounds, both individually and as a community. About the Artist Hadassa Goldvicht is an interdisciplinary artist. Her work has been exhibited widely, including the Fondazione Querini Stampalia, Venice; the Jewish Museum, New York; the Tel Aviv Museum; the Beijing Biennial; the Zacheta National Gallery of Art, Warsaw; and the Tate Modern. Her works are included in both private and public collections. Past artist residencies include Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculture, The Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Workspace Residency, New York University, Urban Glass, and The Peleh Residency, Berkeley. She is a graduate of RISD, and the School of Visual Arts, NY, and a recipient of the Ministry of Culture Award, the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation grant, and the Mandel Fellowship for cultural leadership. Her exhibition Biblioscopia is now on view at the Israel Museum. About the Presenter Liana Finck is a cartoonist, illustrator, author of Let there Be Light and A Bintel Brief, and a reg­u­lar con­trib­u­tor to The New York­er. She is a recip­i­ent of a Ful­bright Fel­low­ship, a Guggenheim Fel­low­ship, and a Mandel Fellowship for Cultural Leadership. She has had artist res­i­den­cies with Mac­Dow­ell, Yad­do, the Low­er Man­hat­tan Cul­tur­al Coun­cil, Head­lands Cen­ter for the Arts, and Willa­pa Bay. Three recent publications by Liana Finck will be sold onsite: How to Baby: A No-Advice-Given Guide to Motherhood, with Drawings; You Broke It!; and Let There Be Light: The Real Story of Her Creation.
