Murphy Auditorium at Iona University. The evening opens with the Egmont Overture, a concise burst of Beethoven’s theater music. Pianist Alon Goldstein joins for the Piano Concerto No. 5 in E-flat, Op. 73, the “Emperor,” prized for its expansive first movement and luminous slow movement. Barry Charles Hoffman conducts Symphony No. 5 in C minor, Op. 67, whose four-note motif remains one of music’s most recognized ideas.
