Tokyo Live Interactive Tour

Take a virtual trip to Japan with your personal tour guide Hiraku on Tuesday, May 14 at 7 p.m. on Zoom. The Zoom will also be available in the library’s Mackay Room so that the participants can watch a tour/class on the big screen. The program is free and open to the public.                        We'll start at the National Museum of Western Art where we will immerse ourselves in the world of Western art and learn about its influence on Japanese culture.             The next stop is the 300-year-old stone gates of Ueno Toshogu Shrine which not only witnesses a rich history but also stands as a symbol of ancient Japanese architecture and spirituality.             We will then head to the Kiyomizu Hall of Ueno Kaneiji Temple which was built in the 17th century. This place is steeped in centuries-old traditions and offers us a glimpse into Japanese religious practice and architecture. Our tour guide interacts with participants. Attendees can ask any questions that interest them. To enjoy the interactive experience to the fullest at home, you can use a microphone and webcam.             Following the route, Hiraku will ask viewers 3 questions based on information provided earlier, and give 2 answers, correct and incorrect. The participants who wish to take part in the quiz choose which answer they think is correct, and answer aloud. This event is sponsored by The Friends of the Englewood Library.
