Archaeological Findings at Former Enslaved Community in Paramus


Patricia King-Butler, Director of the Enslaved African Memorial Committee (EAMC), Commissioner on the Education Equity Action Plan Coalition of NYC and Prof. Chris Matthews, Chair of the Department of Anthropology at MSU. will discuss Archaeological Findings of the Formerly Enslaved Community at Dunkerhook, Paramus: 1830-1910 in the library's Mackay Room on Tuesday, April 11 at 7 p.m. A historic African American Community in Paramus, this research has uncovered archaeological deposits containing thousands of artifacts that help to describe the everyday lives and activities of the Bennett household who lived in the community from its founding in the 1830s until the 1910s. King-Butler will also share a short documentary, produced by the EAMC about the Dunkerhook community. The video is approx. 5 minutes long.
