America250 Film Series: Avalon

Avalon will be the 4th film in the America250 Film Series at the Englewood Library on Thursday, June 25, at 2 p.m. in the library’s Room 2. The program is free and open to the public. Because space is limited, those who register will have priority. You will need to register on this site. The film series will end on Thursday, July 2 at 2 p.m. The Polish-Jewish Krichinsky family began to emigrate to the United States in the early twentieth century, settling in Avalon, an inner-city immigrant neighborhood of Baltimore. Although they brought with them many of their traditions, including a strong family network punctuated by several generations of the same family living under one roof and important decisions about the extended family being made by consensus (by what they call the family circle), they were in search of the American dream. By mid century, the second and third generations of the American side of the family began to search for their own ideals of the American dream, which create friction when it takes a far different road then their parents. The film stars Aidan Quinn, Kevin Pollack, Elijah Wood, Armin Mueller-Stahl, Joan Plowright, Elizabeth Perkins and Leo Fuchs. This 1990 Barry Levinson film runs 128 minutes, and is rated PG. The final film of the series is 1776 on July 2. No one under 18 permitted unless and adult accompanies them throughout the movie. The Englewood Public Library is located at 31 Engle Street, Englewood, NJ.
