FairShot Film Event: Herricanes documentary and panel with women in sports
Gender Fair and Blue Harbor Entertainment, are proud to present a special screening of the award-winning documentary The Herricanes, followed by an insightful panel discussion on equity, representation, and progress in women's sports.
The Herricanes tells the story of the Houston Herricanes, the team that played in the first women’s professional tackle football league in the 1970s. These determined athletes from all different walks of life took to the gridiron despite adversity and hardship and played purely for the love of the game.
Today, while women’s sports have made remarkable strides, many of the struggles faced by the Herricanes still resonate 40 years later. Although the landmark Title IX legislation in 1972 led to a surge in female participation across various sports, football remains the final frontier for women in athletics.
While this film tells a story about tackle football, it is an event for all—especially young women who are passionate about sports, and interested in the future of women’s sports.
The screening of The Herricanes will be followed by a dynamic panel discussion with some of the leading voices in women’s sports including:
