Jon Gailmor at First Folk Sunday
Westport, CT – When Jon Gailmor was a student at Staples High School (class of ’66), he had a dream of becoming a full-time performing musician. On Sunday November 5, Jon returns to Westport and First Folk Sunday to share with us all that his dream came true. Jon will be joined by First Folk Sunday’s resident performer, Suzanne Sheridan, in performing both his original songs and well-known cover tunes.
Jon’s profound and life-changing passion for music and performing was nurtured and permanently affirmed as a member of the Staples High School Choir where he spent some of his most gratifying moments as a tenor under the direction of George Weigle, and with the Orphenians, which toured many places, including the Virgin Islands. On a dream path with fellow Staples classmate Rob Carlson, the two performers formed a duo and sang in clubs, colleges and coffeehouses around the country, a partnership which culminated in the release of their debut album “Peaceable Kingdom” on Polydor Records. As Dan Woog wrote, “Their Polydor album remains a ‘classic.”
40 years ago, Gailmor moved to Vermont where he has raised a family and created a musical family among Vermonters. “Gailmor's ability to wrap his powerful and versatile voice around the cleverly written lyrics and tunes he creates has amazed and delighted audiences for years. Along with musical talent and a sharp intelligence, he has considerable personal charm, capturing his listeners in the palm of his hand, and keeping them there throughout a performance.” “Jon Gailmor is amazing!
