As AI tools revolutionize information organization and retrieval, Bunk (www.bunkhistory.org), a decade-long ongoing project to curate and index contemporary public history writing, also needs to change. We will share our explorations in AI to automate and enhance our existing indexing practices, and our questions as we consider the capabilities LLMs offer. Do we even need taxonomy and indexing anymore? If so, what purpose could it have that complements or challenges the approaches to description and organization available through LLMs? If not, how might we rethink the roles of humans and machines in the work of humanities projects and archival institutions?
