The Great Vigil of Easter at St. Anne’s Episcopal Church
The Great Vigil is an ancient and dramatic service that brings to life the whole of salvation history. It begins outside on Holy Saturday evening, April 8 at St. Anne’s in-the-Fields from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with the kindling of a new fire to represent Christ, the light of the world and the author of our salvation. A new Paschal candle is lit from the fire and the people process into the Sanctuary. By candlelight, we read stories from the bible, remember our baptism, sing out the first Alleluia, and, in a blaze of light, celebrate the first Eucharist of Easter!
